Dr. Darlene Freeman received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983, and her Doctor of Optometry degree with Therapeutic Certification from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1992. She became certified as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist in 2015.
In her more than 20 years of practice, she has focused on Comprehensive Eye Care, Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease, and Specialty Contact Lens Fitting, including Scleral lenses for high refractive error(near sightedness, far sightedness and astigmatism), keratoconus, post surgical corneas and dry eye disease.
She has participated in medical mission projects, including a surgical mission to Guerrero Clinic, Chihuahua, Mexico, and a medical mission trip to a Mayan village in the Yucatan Peninsula. For the past several years, she has participated in Kids’ Vision for Life/ See to Succeed Program with Good Neighbor Clinic. Through these experiences, she has become proficient in Spanish for the complete eye exam.
In her “spare time,” Dr. Freeman is active in her local church and 4H program. She enjoys spending time with her husband, and encouraging their six children in their interests in academics, music, scouting, horsemanship,Special Olympics, journalism, college preparation and pre-optometry.
